This can be achieved only if we follow our ‘personal legend’. ‘Personal legend’ can be defined as something you always wanted to accomplish no matter what. We all have our own personal legend, but often fail to recognise them. But once we realise our dreams, we must strive hard for it and that is where the journey begins. The treasure in the novel is used as a metaphor and the idea should not be applied as such ( Well, obviously you cannot sell off your belongings and go somewhere if you had a dream of a treasure one fine day! ). Recurring dreams of treasure just made Santiago realise that he is no ordinary shepherd. Similarly, what differentiates a leader from the rest is his passion to follow a dream, vision or other words his ‘personal legend’. People may demotivate you saying that your dream is unrealistic or impossible, but you must never lose hope and you must teach your team that the goal is indeed possible. And when you and your team starts to work on it, as the quote states, the universe ‘conspires’ in helping you to achieve it. “ It’s not the destination, It’s the journey.” You will definitely have setbacks in your journey ( Santiago had to suffer many difficulties during the journey ), but ultimately you will definitely succeed. Many people do identify their ‘personal legends’ but will not be willing to work hard for it. As a leader, when you set goals for your organisation or any venture and work hard to achieve it, you ultimately realise that more than the goal, what matters is how you achieved it, what lessons you learnt on the way and how you influence other people to realise their ‘personal legend’. Realising your dream is a great thing, but what you learn during the course of your journey matters even more. On the course of Santiago’s journey, he realises that he learnt things that are even more valuable than the treasure itself.
